Upcoming PC games: The best new games to look forward to in 2020 and beyond
1. Dirt 5
• Release date: 6 November 2020
• Type: Racing Sim
• Publisher: Codemasters
• See it on Steam
With Dirt 5 it's pretty clear that Codemasters is setting this one up with a much more arcade-like feel reminiscent of Dirt Showdown. Less serious rallying (ala Dirt Rally) and more rip-roaring high-octane thrills. Still looks like another cracking outing for the Dirt series though.
With a recent trailer, Codemasters has shown off what fans can expect from the game, including a more diverse range of vehicles than any other Dirt game (13 classes total) and more game modes too. Landrush, Rally Raid, Ice Breaker, Stampede, Path Finder, Sprint and Ultra Cross all appear as racing modes and promise plenty of variety if nothing else.
2. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla
• Release date: 10 November 2020
• Type: Open-world RPG
• Publisher: Ubisoft
The next Assassin's Creed is coming with a Viking theme. Players will be taking on the role of Eivor, a mighty warrior and clan leader. You'll be raiding enemy fortresses, exploring the wonderful open world and earning a place in Valhalla too.
Certainly an interesting change of direction for the series and one we're looking forward to.
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
• Release date: 13 November 2020
• Type: FPS
• Publisher: Activision
The latest Black Ops is actually intended to be the direct sequel to the original Black Ops game. Set during the height of the Cold War, the new installment promises a gripping single-player game with appearances from iconic characters Woods, Mason, and Hudson.
4. Cyberpunk 2077
• Release date: 10 December 2020
• Type: Open-world RPG
• Publisher: CD Projekt Red
Cyberpunk 2077 has sadly been pushed back twice now. Sad times. However, this might be a good thing as it gives the developers more time to give the game a proper polish.
This is the next open-world RPG from the incredible CD Projekt Red - the team behind the awesomely popular Witcher 3. The new game has plenty of promise and when we saw it at E3 and shown off in the gameplay trailer, we were utterly blown away. Even more so when the trailer dropped with an appearance by Keanu Reeves. Now we've seen plenty more in the way of teases including a wonderful live stream with plenty of details to get excited about.
5. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond
• Type: VR shooter
• Publisher: Respawn Entertainment
If you have an aching hole in you where Medal of Honor used to be, then good news! Because Respawn Entertainment is in the midst of crafting another outing in World War II, under the Medal of Honor banner but in VR. That right, you'll be playing as an OSS officer, infiltrating Nazi Europe and sabotaging the enemy from within.
